Skin on skin is sore
The medical layman says: "I ran into a wolf." The specialist calls it intertrigo or intertriginous eczema.

Ointments, such as Multilind or Mykoderm Heilsalbe, contain not only the active ingredient nystatin against fungi, but also healing and drying zinc oxide. Creams with other active ingredients against skin fungi such as clotrimazole or bifonazole are also possible. Apply the creams over the wound edge on healthy skin and treat about two weeks longer than your symptoms last. Because healthy skin has to grow back first. You can prevent re-infection by using one of the mentioned care creams. If you cannot get the skin fungus under control for a long time, if it spreads over a large area or if a very old person or person in need of care is affected, consult a doctor.
The sores burn and itch. If the damaged skin continues to be exposed to body fluids such as sweat, urine, and stool, the symptoms worsen. Even the top layer of skin can be lost so that pathogens such as bacteria and skin fungi can penetrate. Large skin folds in particular are attacked by the yeast Candida albicans.
Then the sore spot wets. Fine scales can be seen at its edge, and so-called satellite foci form in the area next to the wound. It often affects diabetics, the elderly and the overweight. This complexion is often the first indication of an as yet undiagnosed diabetes.
Athletes particularly vulnerable
Athletes are particularly prone to intertrigo. When jogging, cycling or hiking, the skin of the thighs or the buttock folds rub against each other. Anyone who has picked up a wolf during harvest must also take into account the additional mechanical friction caused by the grain dust. In overweight people, the moist skin fold is always present. The same applies to people in need of care who sit in their wheelchairs during the day. There is a risk that the chafed area will even turn into a pressure sore.
To prevent this, it is important to reduce sweating and friction. Prefer cotton clothes. Functional clothing that wicks sweat away from the skin is more suitable for athletes. It should be snug so that no wrinkles rub. It is also helpful to take a break from training or to place soft cotton rags in folds of skin. Women should pay attention to bras that are not too tight.
Optimize skin care
The best way to cleanse the skin is with skin-friendly, pH-neutral syndets. “Real” soap is not suitable. Set the water temperature to be cooler. After washing, the skin must be dried carefully. Carefully pat dry damaged skin.
Never use powder for skin care. The particles clump and scrub even more. Fatty ointments such as milking fat are also unsuitable. It seals the skin airtight. The ointment layer softens the skin and an intertrigo can develop all the more easily. Breathable protective creams are more suitable. Linola protective balm helps well. It is permeable to water vapor so that the skin does not swell any further.
On the outside, it is water-repellent so that body secretions cannot get on the skin. Other ingredients soothe the skin and support healing. It is well suited for physical activity or harvesting. It has proven itself as a skin protection for urinary and faecal incontinence and for protection against pressure ulcers. It is applied thinly several times a day.
Another means of protecting the skin is Cavilon long-term skin protection cream. Since it is waterproof, the protective film can withstand up to three washes. Ilon-Protect also forms a moisture-resistant protective film without softening the skin. Products containing tannins make the skin more resistant and can be used preventively. But they also have a healing effect and are anti-inflammatory.
Examples are Tannolact or Tannosynt as a cream or for bathing. Hametum Creme is also helpful - not the ointment, because the high fat content softens the skin - or cooled sage or black tea as compresses. Marigold essence, which is sold externally as calendula and used diluted with water, also does a good job. Soft zinc paste works against pathogens and promotes healing.
During the treatment, make sure that there is no humid chamber and that air comes into contact with the skin. Place strips of cotton gauze in the folds of the skin to keep the sore spots dry. If you have chafed wounds or if you are diabetic, consult a doctor.
What else helps
To prevent re-intertrigo, eliminate the causes. Reduce obesity. Have your blood sugar adjusted well. Avoid sweaty spices and coffee. Also, make sure that seniors do not sweat. Also think about the duvet.
Those who cannot move themselves have to be repositioned regularly. The doctor may prescribe seat cushions or mattress pads to relieve pressure. Before exercising or starting the combine, rub particularly vulnerable areas of the body with a protective cream as a preventive measure. Kokemoor
