What does UGNX

Unigraphics / NX CAD system

Unigraphics (UG) is involved in the origin of digital product development, it was created in the early 1960s in a small American company near Los Angeles. Here, paper tapes were used to save the program. During this time, the focus was initially on the control of processing machines.

Today Unigraphics has nothing to do with punched tape, it is a modern CAD system with functionalities from construction drafts to simulation, drawing creation and NC programming for machine tools. Years ago the functionalities of Unigraphics and I-DEAS were merged and offered under the name Unigraphics NX.

Siemens has integrated this system into the "Siemens PLM Software" and has been in the program for several years under the name NX as part of its CAD-CAM-CAE overall solution. Siemens relies on the complete solution of software for product development, industrial processing in production with simultaneous data management (PLM = Product Lifecycle Management) in Teamcenter. Teamcenter is the PLM platform from Siemens; fast and reliable product development is not feasible without a powerful PLM system.

A few years ago, Daimler caused a bang in the CAD landscape when it was announced that Daimler would switch from Catia to NX as a platform for global vehicle development. All of the development suppliers had to introduce NX as a CAD system.
