What are reveals and fascia
Difference between soffit and fascia
Reveal against fascia
The fascia and soffit are two integral parts that are used when installing roofs. The reveal and fascia serve a variety of purposes, e.g. B. the prevention of mold and mildew and better ventilation. Although fascia and soffit are two terms that are often used together, they are two different things with different purposes.
What is reveal?
Architecturally, the reveal relates to the underside of elements. The most common of these elements is the roof, and popularly the material used to make the bottom of the roof is called the soffit.
The soffit is used to shape the ceiling from the top of an outside wall of a house to the outside edge of the roof, also known as the eaves. In this case, the material is often nailed or screwed to the rafters, which are typically called viewing rafters. The reveal exposure profile depends on the construction of the building and varies from a few centimeters to 3 feet or more. It can either be ventilated or not ventilated.
What is fascia?
Derived from the Latin term fascia, which means band, bandage, band or swathe, fascia is a term that refers to a Frieze or horizontal tape that is placed vertically under the roof edge. It can be visible to an outsider and also form the outer surface of a cornice. It is the fascia that usually covers the end of rafters outside of a building, which sometimes also houses the rain gutter. Fasciae can also refer to other ribbon-like features around doors that are separated from the wall surface. However, in classical architecture, fascia refers to a wide band above the floor of the entablature that is smooth and is located directly above the pillars. In the Doric order, a drip edge or a "gutta" is attached below the triglyph.
What is the difference between soffit and fascia?
Fascia and soffit are two features that are often discussed in roofing and construction. While the soffit and fascia are used in conjunction, they are two distinct aspects that offer a wide variety of uses when it comes to protecting a building as well as appearance.
• The reveal is usually a lower element of a building, e.g. B. a projecting cornice or arch. The fascia is a thin plate that runs along the edges of a structure.
• The reveal is used under the eaves of a house to close the space below. The fascia forms a barrier between the roof edge and the outside, giving it a smooth appearance.
• The reveal is usually made of aluminum or vinyl. The bezel is usually made of wood, but aluminum and plastic versions are also available.
• The soffit is the most vulnerable aspect of the two as it is constantly exposed to water and other natural elements. Fascia boards are not too vulnerable, but can be prone to damage if overexposed.
