The “large body circulation” is the circulation in which oxygen-rich blood is pumped from the lungs into the left atrium of the heart and then throughout the body. After the nutrients and oxygen have been delivered to the cells, the blood flows into the "small pulmonary circulation". Here the oxygen-poor blood is pumped back into the lungs.

The cardiovascular system also includes the blood itself and the associated blood pressure. If a problem arises with one of the parties mentioned, this has a problematic effect on the entire cardiovascular system.

The influence of lifestyle

Ailments of the cardiovascular system (such as problems with the heart, blood pressure, arteries or veins) are often referred to as "lifestyle diseases" because they are heavily dependent on the personal lifestyle in our modern times. Reasons for the frequent occurrence in our society are, for example, unhealthy eating habits paired with widespread lack of exercise, too much stress and harmful vices such as smoking or too much alcohol.

Micronutrients to support the cardiovascular system

A lot can be done for an intact cardiovascular system through your own lifestyle, sufficient exercise, but also through your daily diet. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) then contributes to a normal iron metabolism.

Without vitamin D there is no calcium

We take in calcium through our diet, for example through dairy products. Calcium is an important mineral for humans. Although 99 percent of all calcium in the body is stored in the bones, calcium also plays an important role in numerous other processes, including blood clotting. At the same time, too high a calcium level in the blood can cause problems. Vitamin D is involved in the normal absorption and utilization of calcium.

The "mood vitamin" thiamine (also called vitamin B1) plays an important role in our cardiovascular system because it contributes to normal heart function. Vitamin C is very important for our arteries and veins because it contributes to the normal function of blood vessels.

If simple protein building blocks from our food, the amino acids, are broken down by our body, homocysteine ​​is created.
