  • In Basel on Saturday afternoon around 200 people took part in an unauthorized Palestine demonstration.
  • They demonstrated against the Israeli army air strikes in the Gaza Strip.
  • Around 300 people took to the streets in Geneva.

At 3 p.m., around 200 sympathizers had gathered on Basel's Barfüsserplatz, as a Keystone-SDA correspondent reported. They chanted slogans like "Freedom for Palestine". The demonstration remained largely peaceful.

A brief argument broke out just before 4 p.m. when a woman appeared and waved an Israel flag. The crowd became restless, several Palestine supporters attacked the woman, whereupon she ran away. The police were there, but held back.

Israelite community warned members

The Israelite Community of Basel had called on its members in advance to avoid the city center. On Friday around 150 people had already gathered on Barfüsserplatz to take part in a pro-Palestine rally. The march continued to the Dreirosenanlage and remained peaceful.

In Geneva, 300 people gathered at the request of the “Collectif Urgence Palestine”. The demonstrators denounced Israeli policy towards the Palestinians. "Today I would have liked to talk about hope," said the Geneva SP Councilor of States Carlo Sommaruga on the occasion. He condemned the escalating crisis in the Middle East.

Thousands demonstrate across Europe

In numerous German cities, a few thousand people took to the streets to show their solidarity with the Palestinians. At the same time, there were also small solidarity rallies for Israel. A total of three pro-Palestinian demonstrations were registered in Berlin. Around 2500 people demonstrated for a free Palestine in Frankfurt. A demonstration was also broken up in Hamburg.

Thousands of people protested in London against the air strikes by the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip. The speaker was former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Despite an official ban, 2,000 to 3,000 people gathered in Paris for a pro-Palestinian demonstration. There were also demonstrations in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon and Strasbourg.

The conflict between Israel and the ruling Hamas in the Gaza Strip had escalated at the beginning of the week. Militant Palestinians are constantly bombarding Israel with rockets - according to the Israeli army it was the last 2300. Israel is responding with massive counter-attacks on the Gaza Strip on the coast.

Conclusion of the above-mentioned comment below: There must be a solution for the Jews and Palestinian Muslims in Israel: a 2-territorial solution. Only then will the state of war end.

    1. answer from Maria Müller (Mmueller)
And what do you intend to do with the Palestinian Christians?
      (There are still those too.)

(In cities like Bethlehem (which is also in the West Bank) they naturally also have a say ...)

As I have been saying for a long time: it is a THREE front conflict. Which makes the whole thing even more difficult.

Neither the Jews nor the Muslims are to be played off against one another. Biblically, they have the same forefather: Abraham begat with Hagar Ishmael, the "forefather" of the Arabs. Abraham begat Isaac with Sarah, from whom and Rebekah the Hebrews and later Isralites / Jews descended. Then Jesus from A-Z was a Jew. Christianity did not develop until after the Easter tale (resurrection of Jesus). Lessing's ring parable correctly shows the equality of the three "scriptural religions".

AND? And we were driven out of paradise because Eva stole the apple! So what is this supposed to mean for us? Nothing ! But right now the resident Palestinians in East Jerusalem are having their homes taken away one more time and they are being illegally expropriated ...... and they should watch and be silent?

The Israelis should finally see that their regression policy has failed!

@ jean-claude albert heusser: Maybe there is no alternative or it is even worse. Do you have a? Negotiate with a Hamas that wishes them dead?
