Jake Gyllenhaal receives the Golden Eye Award at the 13th Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). The US actor will receive his award in person on October 3rd at the gala premiere of his latest film "Stronger".

The co-directors of the festival, Karl Spoerri and Nadja Schildknecht, praised the 36-year-old as "one of the most interesting and versatile film actors of our time" according to a statement on Thursday.

"Stronger" is a true-story story about worker Jeff Baumann, who lost both legs in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The 27-year-old waited at the finish line for his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatjana Maslany) to win her heart back.

Gyllenhaal is best known for starring alongside the late Heath Ledger in the drama Brokeback Mountain, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. But he also played in films such as "End of Watch", "Nocturnal Animals", "Love and other Drugs" or the thriller "Nightcrawler", which ran in 2014 at the ZFF.

This year's Zurich Film Festival will take place from September 28th to October 8th.
